Alternative Spring Break
Alternative Spring Break is a week-long program held during the law school's spring break week. It is an opportunity for law students to gain valuable experience by providing volunteer legal services in offices across the country and in a variety of practice areas. In past years, students have worked in offices such as the Bronx and New Orleans Public Defenders, Legal Aid Justice Center, Mississippi Center for Justice, Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, American Civil Liberties Union, and NY Legal Aid Society.
Students who participate in Alternative Spring Break are eligible to apply their hours towards the 40/80 (1L/2L) hour pro bono requirement for a PILA grant, provided they are registered to participate at the time of their grant application submission.
