2012 PILA Auction
Last Call for Donations! The PILA Auction Deadline is rapidly approaching! The annual PILA Auction will be held on Saturday, November 10th at the Omni Hotel. The PILA Board has been hard at work planning the event by securing donations for students to bid on at the Auction. Proceeds from the Auction will help PILA provide funding for law students engaged in public interest work this summer. Thanks to your generosity, last summer a record number of students received PILA grants. In the past, one of the keys to the PILA Auction’s success has been the generous donations from the law school students. If you’ve donated in the past, we’d love for you to do the same this year. If you’ve never donated, please consider making a donation this year. To donate, please fill out the attached contract of donation. If you would like to donate more than one gift, blank contracts of donation can be found on the PILA bulletin board in Hunton & Williams Hall. Completed contracts may be returned in one of two ways: email them to [email protected] by Friday, October 26th, or email them to Julianne Jaquith at [email protected]. You may also contact Julianne if you have any questions about the auction or about making a donation. Thank you for supporting PILA! Please email your completed application to Dana Tapper ([email protected]) & Robyn Bitner ([email protected]) by 5:00pm on Wednesday, October 24th. To ensure receipt, please include Mentee Application in the subject line of the email. Mentee application form is available HERE Last summer, PILA distributed over $480,000 in grants to UVA Law students working at low- or unpaid public interest jobs. On Monday and Tuesday, PILA Disbursements Director Daniel Guarnera will walk through the 2013 application process and answer any questions you may have. It takes some forethought to develop a strong application, so it’s strongly recommended that students who are considering summer public interest work attend an information session. Mon., Oct. 22, 12 -1 pm, WB 152 Tues., Oct. 23, 12-1 pm, WB 126 These two info sessions are jointly hosted by Dean Emery from the Pro Bono Office, who will discuss the law school’s Winter Break Pro Bono Project. It’s two great info sessions for the price of one! ASB If you are interested in serving as a trip captain for ASB this year, please join us for an interest meeting and free baked goods. Trip captains coordinate with host organizations and coordinate trip logistics and fundraising. Serving as a trip captain is an opportunity to earn public service hours, build relationships with experienced public interest attorneys, and demonstrate commitment to public service. Monday, October 22, 5 P.M. Slaughter 258 Confirmed ASB Sites: New Orleans, Mississippi, North Carolina, Kentucky, Charlottesville, Richmond, New York
